The risks are evident. In total, 731 accidents were recorded at some stage of offshore oil exploration in 2024. This equates to an average of two accidents per day.

Opening this new region to oil drilling will not only increase these proven dangers, and risk poisoning the Amazon. It would send the worst possible signal: thatBrazil is doubling down on oil while we desperately need to phase out fossil fuels .
