John, it’s Julie Johnson, Democrat from Texas, and a proud lesbian. |
This Pride Month, I want to share my story with you – and offer some words of encouragement for the fight ahead.
In 2024, I made history as the first openly LGBTQ member of Congress from the South. Before that, I was a lawyer and a Texas State Legislator, where I helped kill hundreds of anti-LGBTQ bills in the House. |
I don’t have to tell you that we’re in a moment of crisis, John. MAGA Republicans are pushing a divisive and extremist agenda that puts a target on the LGBTQ community. These attacks aren’t just empty rhetoric. They’re real. They’re dangerous. And they’re landing hardest on transgender Americans who already face the steepest barriers to healthcare, opportunity, and safety. Well, I didn’t come to Congress to sit quietly while our rights and our communities are attacked. I came to fight.
I know what it feels like to be told you don’t belong. I’ve lived it. And I’ve spent my career fighting for a seat at the table, to make sure no one else has to. The road ahead is tough, but it’s not hopeless. I’ve seen what we can do when we fight. We’ve blocked bad bills. We’ve flipped seats. We’ve shifted culture. We’ve saved lives. So let's keep going. John, this Pride Month, we need to send a clear message that we won’t back down. Can I count on you to chip in $10 to help elect pro-equality Democrats who will fight for a future where every person, regardless of who they are or whom they love, can live openly, safely, and freely? |
