Right now, millions of families who rely on Medicaid to survive are waiting, terrified, as members of the Senate majority argue about how deeply to slash this vital lifeline.
Weeks ago, the House passed a shocking bill that would slash Medicaid funding by more than $800 billion — ripping coverage away from nearly 8 million people, many of whom will have no other access to healthcare.
Now, it’s the Senate’s turn — and as they race to pass a bill this month, major disagreements are breaking out, with some proposing even more catastrophic cuts while others express concern that the House cuts go too far.
Their disagreement is our opportunity — and it's the voices of all of us that can tilt the balance. If we urgently overwhelm the Senate with calls to protect — not slash — the Medicaid funding millions depend on each day, we have a chance to stop these cruel cuts.
Medicaid is a critical lifeline for care workers who rely on public coverage in order to access healthcare. And massive cuts to the program will also lead to catastrophic job losses for countless care workers who have jobs thanks to Medicaid providing in-home support to families who need it.
Some members of the Senate majority see the writing on the wall and are sounding the alarm, even calling cutting Medicaid “politically suicidal.” But others are demanding even larger cuts in order to help pay for the massive tax cuts for billionaires and the ultra-wealthy that are also in this bill.
Politicians in the Senate may be debating just how far is too far, but let's be clear — every single dollar lost puts someone's health and livelihood at immediate risk.
As they race to write and pass the bill, it’s up to ALL of us to come together to send Senators a clear message: the public is watching and will not stand by while healthcare is ripped away from millions.
