John,Trump wants tanks and missiles rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue alongside thousands of marching soldiers. This parade sounds a lot more like something that happens in Moscow or Pyongyang than on Main Street, USA.

This gaudy display isn’t about honoring our troops. It’s about glorifying Trump himself. It just so happens to fall on June 14: the Army’s birthday and his own. And he wants you to pay for it — to the tune of $45 million or more.

That’s why Rep. Steve Cohen introduced the HAPPY BIRTHDAY Budget Act — yes, that’s really the name — to block taxpayer dollars from being spent on Trump’s authoritarian birthday spectacle.

This is about defending democracy. Our military serves the people, not any one politician, and especially not one who urged his supporters to violently storm the U.S. Capitol and tried to overthrow an election.
