Vol. 119, Issue #12

Dear Friends/Amigos,

This week, I was back in Washington D.C. to fight for the priorities and concerns of our community. From neighborhood challenges to broader state and national matters, your voices are the compass that guides my work.

As your representative, I am deeply committed to advocating for the values and needs of our district in our nation’s capital. Every vote I cast and every decision I make in Washington is shaped by what I hear directly from you. Your input is not only important, it’s vital.

Follow along on FacebookInstagram, and X for updates from Capitol Hill and from across our district. And if you'd like to reach out directly, don't hesitate to call or write to my D.C. office at (202) 225-3931 or visit Salazar.House.Gov.

Sincerely/Atentamente,

María E. Salazar

U.S. Representative (FL-27)

Taking Action Against Antisemitism

In light of recent antisemitic attacks, I joined Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) in introducing the bipartisan Commission to Study Acts of Antisemitism in the United States Act, legislation that creates a national commission to investigate the rise in antisemitic violence and provide actionable recommendations to Congress and the President.

Since the brutal Hamas terrorist attack on innocent Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, antisemitic incidents have skyrocketed, resulting in an overall increase of 900% over the past 10 years, including recent violent, hate-fueled attacks that have shocked communities across the country. The U.S. must identify and report these acts of hate against the Jewish community to put an end to them immediately.

Antisemitic violence and harassment have surged across the United States since October 7, 2023, with several recent cases highlighting the alarming rise in hate. In Boulder, Colorado, an illegal immigrant from Egypt, used a makeshift flamethrower to attack peaceful marchers calling for the release of hostages, injuring eight people. In Washington, D.C., a separate incident saw two young Israeli Embassy staffers murdered outside the Capital Jewish Museum by a radical Hamas supporter shouting “Free Palestine.” Across college campuses, antisemitic incidents have spiked by more than 80 percent, with students reporting threats, vandalism, harassment, and physical assaults.

The Commission to Study Acts of Antisemitism will bring together Jewish leaders, law enforcement, civil society experts, and impacted communities to investigate these acts of hate, identify their root causes, and deliver a formal report to Congress and the President with concrete policy recommendations. The commission will also strengthen national data collection and improve accountability for antisemitic incidents.

Standing with Cuba’s Brave Students

The new generation in Cuba is done being silent. This week, students across the island have bravely taken a stand against the regime’s censorship, lies and brutality, confronting the state-run company, ETECSA.

I proudly stand with them and support their courageous fight. Cuba deserves truth, freedom, and democracy.

I have been working with the administration to hold those responsible in the Cuban regime accountable for Cuba’s exploitative labor export program. The State Department has taken concrete steps to restrict visa issuance for Cuban officials and complicit third-country individuals complicit in this abusive practice. We are committed to promoting accountability for the regime’s oppression and for those who profit from forced labor. I will continue the fight against the regime in Washington.

Welcoming Brave Venezuelan Heroes to Congress

This week, I had the honor of welcoming the courageous Venezuelan heroes once trapped for over a year in the Argentine embassy, without food, water, medicine, or power, simply for defending democracy and supporting María Corina Machado. Now, thanks to U.S. leadership and Secretary Rubio, they are safe in America. Their spirit is unbreakable. But our mission continues. We won’t stop until every political prisoner is free and Venezuela is truly liberated. ¡Viva Venezuela libre!

In the Media: Speaking with Fox Noticias about the alarming rise in Antisemitism, the TPS ruling, and more.

This week, I joined Rachel Campos-Duffy on Fox Noticias to discuss a range of pressing issues, including the alarming rise in antisemitism, the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants, and other key topics impacting our communities.
