In the past week, Mike Espy called for the confederate battle emblem to be removed from the Mississippi state flag and for the removal of confederate statues in the U.S. Capitol. His vote is to replace JZ George with Blues legend BB King — and a lot of folks agreed. Others suggested icons like Fannie Lou Hamer, Medgar Evers, Hiram Revels, Elvis Presley, and more.

Our opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, on the other hand has spent decades glorifying the confederacy.

In 2000, Hyde-Smith helped block Black state legislators’ efforts to protest the state senate’s refusal to change the state flag, which today is the only remaining state flag in the United States that still features the confederate battle emblem.

And it doesn’t end there. Over the years, Hyde-Smith has:

*
Given
awards
and
recognition
to
confederate
“heritage”
groups
*
Tried
naming
a
highway
after
Jefferson
Davis
*
Posed
in
a
confederate
uniform
*
Called
confederate
artifacts
“Mississippi
at
its
best!”

Today, as our country and state face an uprising of calls for racial justice and a long-overdue removal of hateful symbols from our disgraceful past, it’s no surprise given her history that Hyde-Smith offers weak words.

Our opponent wants to keep Mississippi stuck in the past. Mike Espy wants to move us forward.

If you’re ready for a U.S. Senator who’s committed to creating a brighter future for every Mississippian, chip in $10 or whatever you can to our grassroots campaign today:

We can’t afford to let Hyde-Smith hold our state back any longer. Let’s do something about it this November at the polls.
