New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair for Policy Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) and Transportation Task Force Chair Shomari C Figures (AL-02) penned a letter ([link removed]) to House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen outlining the Coalition’s priorities for the upcoming Surface Transportation Reauthorization Package.

The letter reads in part:

“Since our founding in 1997, the New Democrat Coalition has consistently prioritized sustainable funding and financing; safe, resilient, and innovative infrastructure programs; and smart planning, zoning, and development. As you work in a bipartisan fashion to craft the Surface Transportation Reauthorization package, we are eager to find a pragmatic path forward that meets the needs of the American people.”

In the letter, Reps. Budzinski and Figures highlight 15 recommendations from the Coalition that fall into three categories:
1. Accelerating and streamlining the planning, zoning and development of infrastructure projects;
2. Providing robust and sustainable funding and financing for key projects;
3. Ensuring innovative infrastructure programs are developed to be safe and resilient.

Reps. Smith and Fitzpatrick Introduce Legislation to Create and Expand Mobile Crisis Response Programs Across the Country ([link removed])
Congressmen Adam Smith (WA-09) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) introduced the 911 Community Crisis Responders Act (H.R. 3658 ([link removed]) ), which would create a grant program for states, tribes, and localities to create and expand mobile crisis response programs, made up of specialized service providers, that serve as a first response to nonviolent emergency calls. These programs enable communities to enhance public safety, deliver better outcomes for community members, and reduce strain on the resources police departments expend on responding to these calls.

Rep. McDonald Rivet Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Advocate for Families Affected by PFAS ([link removed])
Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), co-chairs of the Congressional PFAS Task Force, introduced bipartisan legislation (H.R. 3761 ([link removed]) ) to better support families affected by PFAS contamination. The bill would create a new, high-level position at the Pentagon called the Coordinator for PFAS-Impacted Defense Engagement to serve as a direct advocate for affected families — boosting transparency, driving remediation, and ensuring the government delivers results.

Rep. Craig Reintroduces Legislation to Ban Members of Congress from Trading Stocks ([link removed])
Congresswoman Angie Craig (MN-02) reintroduced the NO STOCK Resolution (H. Res.__ ([link removed]) ), legislation that would require every sitting member of the U.S. House of Representatives to immediately sell their individual stocks and refrain from future stock ownership while in office.
