Today, on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, we remember the lives stolen and forever changed by gun violence and recommit to the work of preventing more families from enduring that pain.

In an average year, over 800 Marylanders die from gun violence. That’s more than two people every day—sons, daughters, friends, neighbors.

As Maryland’s Attorney General, I refuse to accept this as normal.

That’s why I’ve taken action:
* I joined a multistate coalition of attorneys general to hold gun manufacturers and dealers accountable for business practices that fuel gun violence.
* I filed lawsuits against Maryland gun stores accused of selling to straw purchasers whose firearms were trafficked into our communities.
* I joined a landmark lawsuit against Glock for its role in enabling gun violence and violating Maryland’s Gun Industry Accountability Act.
* I’m proud to support Maryland’s Handgun Qualification Licensing law—an essential safeguard that the Supreme Court just let stand.

Gun violence isn’t inevitable. It’s a policy choice. And with smart, bold legal action, we can save lives.

Together, we must keep fighting for a Maryland where every community is safe from gun violence.
