Friend, All life is interconnected, all struggles for dignity and justice are woven together, true progress for people and the planet and must include all people. That’s why Green America is joining the call of Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) and encouraging everyone to join Juneteenth actions this weekend in support of Black lives and communities. Thousands of people are demonstrating their outrage, pain, and commitment to a better society following the continued loss of more Black lives to police brutality and the COVID-19 pandemic ripping through Black and Brown communities. There is no environmental sustainability without racial justice. We can’t make progress on climate change unless we address the fact that people of color bear the brunt of the fossil fuel industry. We can’t have a green economy when Black communities and other communities of color are left behind. Join Green America in taking part in the SIX NINETEEN mobilization led by the Movement for Black Lives on “Juneteenth” weekend, June 19–21, 2020. “Juneteenth” (June 19) was the date in 1865 when enslaved Black people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom – two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The day honors Black people’s freedom, resistance, and tremendous contributions to our country. Click here for Juneteenth actions nationally – including virtual actions! People are coming together in unity for Juneteenth as never before. Join us so as a nation we can turn from the diseases of racism and COVID-19 to the health and well-being of justice, compassion, and sustainable communities everywhere.
