Legislative Update
It’s now been three weeks since the Legislature’s May 19th adjournment deadline came and went—and like many of you, I’m concerned and disappointed. My Republican colleagues and I have remained ready and willing to finish the work Minnesotans sent us here to do. We’ve been showing up to negotiations, reviewing proposals, and doing our part to reach an agreement.
Unfortunately, while we’ve stayed focused on the task at hand, Governor Tim Walz chose to spend the weekend campaigning out of state in South Carolina. That’s right—while our state waits on a budget deal, the Governor was out on the national stage telling his party to "“be a little meaner”" and take a more aggressive stance against President Trump. You can watch it here for yourself:

His exact words? "“Maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce, because we have to ferociously push back on this.”"
Frankly, this kind of rhetoric helps no one—especially not Minnesotans who are waiting on a finished budget, a safer state, and more accountability.
Representative Max Rymer (R- North Branch) put it best in his post on X [ [link removed] ]:
“If Walz runs for re-election, his entire 3rd term will instantly be devoted to running for President. Given our spending, fraud, crime problems—how’s that remotely acceptable?”
This is no time for presidential politics. This is a time to lead—to be present, responsible, and committed to getting a sound budget in place.
Minnesotans are tired of political games. So am I. That’s why I’ll keep showing up and doing the job you elected me to do: bringing common sense to the Capitol, advocating for our region, and working toward solutions that prioritize public safety, economic stability, and responsible government.
Thank you for staying informed and engaged—I’ll continue to keep you updated as we navigate the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Representative Nathan Nelson
