Dear Friends --
We won a major victory on Tuesday when the State Senate passed Sen. Scott Wiener’s SB 79 -- but the vote was extremely close, and highlights the hard work we still have cut out ahead of us.
Passing SB 79 through the Senate was a major victory. It's a transformative bill, and will legalize multi-family homes near transit stops across our state. And it was made possible because of a strong grassroots mobilization from YIMBYs like you across California, who made hundreds of calls, sent hundreds of emails, and even spoke directly to legislators and their staff at our 2025 YIMBY Lobby Day two weeks ago.
SB 79's passage was also made possible by our strong allies in the legislature. But the vote on SB 79 should not have been this close. We need to elect more housing leaders in 2026 -- and defend pro-housing allies from NIMBY opposition.
With the 2026 primary less than a year away, and elections for dozens of Legislators and the Governor’s office on the line, now is the time to start supporting the next cohort of housing champions to represent us in Sacramento.
For less than the cost of one piece of avocado toast a month, you can help elect more housing champions in 2026. Can we count on your help?

The California YIMBY Victory Fund is our political action committee that helps recruit, vet, and support housing champions at the ballot box. That work is particularly urgent when we have an open seat for Governor, as well as many other statewide and legislative offices.
Due to term limits, there are many open seats every two years. Sometimes that means losing longtime housing leaders like Sen. Nancy Skinner, who was termed out last year. But it also creates an opportunity to elect new leaders who understand that we have to end the housing shortage in order to make housing affordable in California -- like her successor, Sen. Jesse Arreguín.
Candidates are already launching their campaigns for Governor, other statewide offices, and the state legislature. We need to build a war chest that can help us ensure YIMBY allies win these important races. Will you step up and help provide the resources we need to elect more housing champions – and pass more bills like SB 79?
Please give $5 per month (or more) to the California YIMBY Victory Fund today -- and help elect YIMBYs in 2026!
Thank you so much for stepping up in this urgent moment.
