Donald Trump is planning a military parade in our nation’s capital next Saturday to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary -- on his birthday, no less -- with a price tag of up to $45 million in taxpayer money.

That figure doesn’t even account for the added costs: damaged streets, cleanup crews, and an increased police presence.

Of course we honor and appreciate the men and women of our military and the sacrifices they’ve made for this country. But it’s hard to ignore the hypocrisy of spending tens of millions on a political spectacle while Trump and MAGA Republicans are pushing a budget that slashes funding for Medicaid, food assistance, and public education.

While Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans try to divide us, undermine our democracy, and roll back hard-won rights, Jim and Democrats are committed to moving our country forward -- by lowering costs, protecting our health care, and fighting for our freedoms. 

If we’re going to protect our values and advance progress, we need to win elections. And if we’re going to win elections, we need everyone participating.
