Who’s Really Representing You in Olympia?

Future 42 has released its first-ever comprehensive legislative scorecard, breaking down how all 146 Washington state lawmakers voted during the 2025 session—and what those votes mean for your safety, your wallet, and the size of your government.

The 2025 session was a lengthy one, with more than 2,000 bills introduced and major budget packages passed. But Future 42 zeroes in on the 19 most impactful bills, sorting them into four key categories: Public Safety, Regulations, Taxes, and Good Government. Each lawmaker’s votes are graded based on whether they promoted safety, reduced red tape, cut taxes, or made government more transparent and efficient.

The scorecard shows exactly who stood for common-sense policies—and who didn’t. While Republican-backed bills like school panic buttons and tax-free budgets were often blocked or buried, Governor Bob Ferguson signed nearly every costly, heavy-handed measure that made it through. That includes rent control, gas tax hikes, paid strike benefits, and rollbacks to parental rights.

Lawsuit Demands Accountability Over Missing Emissions Report

A hearing is set for today, Friday, June 6, 2025, in Myers v. Ecology and Commerce, a case brought by the Citizen Action Defense Fund (CADF) on behalf of Todd Myers, Vice President for Research at the Washington Policy Center. The lawsuit claims the Departments of Ecology and Commerce broke state law by failing to deliver a legally required greenhouse gas emissions report for 2022 and 2023.

Despite statutory deadlines, the agencies’ report was late and only included data through 2021—leaving lawmakers and researchers flying blind on the state’s carbon goals. CADF is seeking a court order to compel compliance, arguing no agency is above the law. Myers called on Governor Bob Ferguson and Ecology Director Casey Sixkiller to admit fault and stop wasting taxpayer money defending the delay.

The hearing will take place in person at Thurston County Superior Court and via Zoom. We will keep you updated on the latest. Find more information here.

Democrats Panic as Republicans Push Voter ID and Citizenship Verification in New Ballot Measure

Washington Democrats are fuming over a new election integrity initiative backed by the Washington State Republican Party that would require proof of U.S. citizenship and valid ID to vote. The proposal, Initiative IL26-126, aims to fix what Democrats pretend isn’t broken—an outdated, all-mail voting system with little accountability and no safeguards to verify who’s actually voting.

WAGOP Chair Rep. Jim Walsh says it’s time for real reforms, starting with basic ID and citizenship checks. But AG Nick Brown and Gov. Bob Ferguson—champions of ballot harvesting and bloated voter rolls—immediately trashed the plan, calling it an attack on democracy. In reality, the only thing under attack is their ability to run elections without scrutiny.

The initiative doesn’t even touch mail-in voting yet—but Democrats are already melting down. Why? Because they know verifying citizenship and cleaning up voter rolls threatens their grip on a system they’ve spent years manipulating. Signature gathering is now underway to bring the issue to the Legislature—or the voters—by 2026. Read more at the Post Millennial.

INTERVIEW: Magendanz Talks Policy, Accountability, and Real-World Solutions

What do submarines, software code, and high school classrooms have in common? For Chad Magendanz, they’re all training grounds for public service—and the foundation of a campaign built on real-world problem-solving. In a wide-ranging interview with Shift WA, the 5th District State Senate candidate shares how his experience in the Navy, tech sector, and public education shapes his approach to policymaking: practical, accountable, and focused on results.

Magendanz pulls no punches on Olympia’s tax addiction, calling for audits, efficiency, and an end to runaway government growth. He dives into education reform, arguing that funding without accountability is failing our kids, and lays out a vision for expanding STEM access to every student, no matter their ZIP code. With a track record of bipartisan wins and a refusal to play political games, Magendanz makes a strong case for why the Senate needs a dose of discipline, innovation, and common sense.
