Gerry Connolly proudly served as the Democratic representative for Virginia’s 11th District and as Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee. A lifelong public servant, he championed Northern Virginia’s economy, public education, Social Security, Medicare, and the defense of democracy. Gerry previously led as Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and was known for his deep commitment to community and country. He passed away on May 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer and is survived by his beloved wife, Smitty, and their daughter, Caitlin. Before his passing, Gerry formally endorsed his longtime advisor, former Chief of Staff and current Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw, to succeed him in Congress and continue the work they began together.
