Dear USO Supporter,

Today marks 81 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy, France and the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe.

"Operation Overlord," as D-Day was known, faced immense challenges: treacherous geography, disrupted communications, last-minute changes to battle plans and poor weather conditions.

Yet the Allied forces persevered, executing an invasion by air, land and sea. It became known as the largest amphibious invasion in history.

Dwight Eisenhower addressing troops historical image

"THE EYES OF THE WORLD ARE
UPON YOU.
THE HOPES AND PRAYERS OF
LIBERTY-LOVING PEOPLE EVERYWHERE
MARCH WITH YOU...
I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE
IN YOUR COURAGE,
DEVOTION TO DUTY
AND SKILL IN BATTLE.
WE WILL ACCEPT NOTHING LESS
THAN FULL VICTORY!"

-GEN. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER,
SUPREME COMMANDER
