Today is Gun Violence Awareness Day – a time to reflect, to honor those we’ve lost, and to recommit ourselves to the work of building a safer future.

Right now, the current administration is siding with the gun lobby, and gun safety loopholes are putting lives at risk across the country. We have an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to preventing gun violence – here in Maryland and nationwide.

As a mother, I think every day about what kind of world we’re building for the next generation. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children in America – but it doesn’t have to be. Together, we can turn our grief into action and create real, lasting change.

I will always support efforts that protect Marylanders and make our state a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
