What Will They Use Next? Clowns?

What to Know: Having failed with every other doomsday prediction, now climate change alarmists trying to scare you with… spiders, which they claim might become more aggressive due to more hurricanes.

The TPPF Take: Of course they keep upping the ante; you’re aren’t sufficiently scared.

“This is why alarmists keep resorting to fear tactics and moving up the countdown clock,” said TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “Despite the hysterical headlines, the data is clear that mild warming — which even totally eliminating fossil fuels would barely affect—doesn’t justify strangling our economy and quality of life. Not even doomsday spiders.”

Austin Housing Crisis

What to Know: In response to its housing and homelessness crises, the city of Austin wants to respond… by growing government and making homes less affordable.

The TPPF Take: City policies—and fees, and taxes—are the problem, not the solution to both those issues.

“A 2016 comparison of city fees to build an apartment complex found that Austin’s fees can be eight (or more) times higher than similar fees in Dallas,” says TPPF’s Ellen Troxclair. “This means the difference between handing over $100,000 and $800,000 before spending a dollar on labor or materials. That makes housing much more expensive. The city should instead lower taxes, fees and land-use regulations to enable builders to meet the obvious need for more affordable housing.”

Border Crisis

What to Know: Asylum claims—the vast majority of which will eventually be found to be unsubstantiated—continue to drive the crisis at the border.

The TPPF Take: Our asylum system is being overwhelmed by migrants who are merely seeking better job opportunities.

“Our economy needs capable workers and people with unique abilities, but the United States cannot accommodate every person who simply wants to come here for a job,” says TPPF’s Igor Magalhaes. “Therefore, to be granted this privilege, one must navigate the immigration system. It’s time to reform the asylum process.”
