Legislative Update
Dear friends and neighbors,
While our special session still has not been called, we are making progress on our outstanding bills. Hopefully, Governor Walz will call the special session in the coming days and we can complete our work by the end of next week. I will keep you updated as I can! I assure you that my Republican colleagues and I are eager to deliver on our promises for Minnesotans, which has been challenging due to Democrats playing political games this session.
Negotiation Update
As I mentioned, House Republicans have been focused since day one on relieving families, retirees, small business owners, schools, and nursing homes from the burden of government. While we've been hard at work finding commonsense solutions and negotiating in good faith to avoid a government shutdown, Governor Walz has been flying around the country campaigning. Meanwhile, back in Minnesota, thousands of state employees have been called back into the office just to receive layoff notices effective July 1st. The Walz administration is out of touch with the needs and priorities of Minnesotans, which is really highlighted by his actions. I can assure you that I am working as hard as I can to keep the real priorities of Minnesotans at the forefront, although we are fighting against a strong current.
Minnesota Retailers
During my time in district this week I was able to attend a Minnesota Retailers event. I heard their frustrations with PFML (Paid Family and Medical Leave) as well as concerns about the ESST (Earned Sick and Safe Time) program. While the goal of providing working Minnesotans with paid leave and sick time is great and I am in support, the way that we do it must be intentional and well-thought out so that we do not negatively impact small retailers across the state. I am thankful for these conversations that better guide my decisions in St. Paul and help me see the unintended consequences of programs such as these.

"The Taste of Waseca"
I also had the chance to attend an event called "The Taste of Waseca," hosted by the Waseca Farm Bureau. It was a lot of fun to connect with farmers and consumers while listening about pressing issues related to legislation that was debated during this session. Thank you for the opportunity to hear from folks about what matters to them most!
