Dennis Prager, born on August 2, 1948, in New York and has resided in the Los Angeles area for a long time, is a prominent architect of conservatism in America. As a radio host, best-selling author, speaker, and co-founder of Prager University, he has educated millions of minds with his intelligence, passion, and dedication to timeless values. From Jewish studies to national radio dials to the cyber front lines, Dennis's efforts have left a lasting impression on culture, politics, and religion—especially in California.
A Personal Note
I have been privileged to know Dennis personally for most of my life. About a decade ago, I went on a tour of the Holy Land with a wonderful group that included Dennis and his wife, Susan. During this tour, Dennis acted as our Jewish tour guide and spiritual leader, working in tandem with Pastor Rob McCoy, who provided a Christian perspective and leadership.
As a conservative Jew myself, I had long admired Dennis before we took that trip—but walking the Jerusalem streets with him, experiencing amazing sights throughout Israel, and engaging in deep, thoughtful discussions was unforgettable. His lectures, based on both ancient truths and modern understanding, charged the journey with spiritual significance. For all of us, it was life-altering—and for me, it strengthened admiration and friendship.
Early Life and Jewish Leadership
Dennis was raised in an observant Jewish family and attended Brooklyn College, studying history and Middle Eastern Studies, and continued at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He headed the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in California from 1976 to 1983, reviving Jewish education and engaging young adults in conversations about God, ethics, and Western values through Judaism.
The Voice of Common Sense
Dennis began his career in radio in 1982 at Los Angeles' KABC. By 1999, The Dennis Prager Show was syndicated nationwide by Salem Media Group. Today, it is heard on nearly 400 stations, with millions tuning in daily to his political, cultural, and religious commentary. Based in California, Dennis is a familiar voice in American living rooms. He has become one of conservatism's most astute thinkers because he can effectively blend philosophy with current events.
Books That Illuminate
Dennis's writing has kept pace with his radio career, striking a balance of clarity and ethical depth. His first joint effort, "The Nine Questions People Ask About Judaism," was a staple of Jewish outreach. Since then, he has written on a vast array of subjects, including happiness and ethics, as well as biblical commentary, such as his The Rational Bible series. His books strive to provide readers with moral certainty and a deeper understanding of timeless truths.
PragerU: A Digital Revolution
Dennis co-founded Prager University (PragerU) with producer Allen Estrin in 2009. Based in California, PragerU produces five-minute videos that promote American and conservative values, tackling issues such as economics, free speech, and Judeo-Christian ethics. PragerU has emerged as a digital giant, garnering over a billion views annually and attracting a young audience eager for clarity and conviction.
Shaping a Generation
Dennis's influence cuts across generations. Followers—from young PragerU viewers to seasoned radio listeners—see him as a moral compass in times of uncertainty. His recurring themes—personal responsibility, objective morality, and the necessity of faith—find traction across party and religious lines. His Fireside Chats, speeches, and writings challenge followers to "do the good," resist cultural drift, and confront criticism with moral strength.
A New Chapter of Strength and Resilience
In November, Dennis's life was changed when he slipped in the shower and sustained severe spinal damage to the C3 and C4 vertebrae. Hospitalized in Los Angeles, he has lost significant mobility and has respiratory issues. But his determination is unrelenting. Dennis’ son, David, and PragerU CEO Marissa Streit have reported seeing heartening signs of progress. Dennis left a voice message that said, "I plan to return to radio." His speech is improving, and he is regaining some movement in his limbs.
Dennis's boldness in the face of danger is characteristic of the same moral clarity that has guided his life and work. He remains driven by his values, his faith, and the millions he has inspired over the years.
If you've read through the entire profile, and it's not too much of an imposition, please pause for just a moment and silently pray for Dennis' recovery. I know he would sincerely appreciate it.
