ANALYSIS: How Will The House Reconciliation Package Affect NCRC Members, And What Comes Next?

The bill advances President Trump’s tax agenda by mostly extending provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which would primarily benefit the top 20% of households. If passed, the bill would add an additional $3.8 trillion to federal deficits by 2034. To offset these cuts, the reconciliation bill includes devastating cuts of over $700 billion to Medicaid and nearly $300 billion to SNAP, which will impact the most vulnerable households in the US. "Displaced by Design" was published under the auspices of the Washington, DC-based National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a network representing more than 700 nonprofit community development and finance organizations that seeks to "increase the flow of private capital into traditionally underserved communities." And while gentrification happens in many parts of the country, Bruce Mitchell, NCRC's lead researcher and the author of the study, notes that Denver stands out among all of the areas he analyzed. The Trump Administration Is Working On A Plan Tor Time Limits On Rental Aid

Several housing experts said a time limit alone could be considered an implied work requirement. But last month, Housing Secretary Scott Turner and three other Cabinet members wrote a New York Times opinion piece calling on Congress to expand work requirements across safety net programs. They said an increasing share of public benefits are not going to the "truly needy," but to able-bodied adults who don't work. [Read more]
