At Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Zambia, a group of dedicated nurses just wrapped up an essential Orbis training all thanks to supporters like you— and the results are already making a difference.
When we first met the team in December 2024, many had little experience in eye care or surgery. But thanks to your support, these nurses received best-in-class training to improve their surgical prep and eye screening skills.
From January to April 2025, we returned to Zambia for six more sessions tailored to the team’s growing needs. Each training is built on the last, boosting confidence and sharpening critical skills. And the impact can already be felt:
- Daily operations have jumped from five to up to 11—including more major surgeries
- Patient volume has doubled, from 25 to 50 people seen each day
- Nurses now screen eyes in-house with no referral needed
- The team reports smoother surgical prep and more confident care
