Dear John,
The 2025 federal election confirmed something we’ve known for years: when voters understand how to use their preferences, they can defeat the political machine. Because of that, One Nation now has two new Senators in the federal parliament, Tyron Whitten in Western Australia and Warwick Stacey in New South Wales.
Both victories were won ‘from behind’. Neither Tyron nor Warwick held a top-six primary vote position, but thanks to strong flows of preferences from like-minded voters, they overtook better-funded candidates from the major parties. These were the only two Senate seats in the country won in this way. In fact its the first time a Senator has won this way in a state since the 2016 reforms.
That’s not luck, it’s the result of hard work, education, and voters standing firm on their principles.
This success didn’t come out of nowhere. In 2016, the Senate voting system changed.
Under the old Group Voting Ticket model, voters lost control of their preferences, parties did the dealing behind closed doors, and One Nation was locked out while micro parties were shuffled in to serve the political elite.
It was only after those micro parties became a nuisance that the major parties scrapped the system, and in doing so, opened the door to real representation.
Since then, One Nation has made educating voters a priority. We’ve always said: put us first, then number every box according to your values. That message has cut through. At this election, One Nation's education attempts made the difference.
We also saw how like-minded parties working together through preference recommendations can help our side of politics. One Nation placed many such candidates high on our how-to-vote cards, while always reminding voters that the final decision is theirs.
Unfortunately, there were cases where other parties chose to preference Labor or the Greens above us. In those cases we lost, and the radical left gained.
Let this be a lesson for future elections: if you share our values, put One Nation first, because that number one vote matters more than ever.
