Here’s what else you will find in this issue:

  2. LGBTQ workers’ rights Supreme Court decision.
  3. Celebrating 10 years of impact with Ford Driving Dreams.

Our Top Story
Here is what you should know.

We’re Ready

Dreamers will not be left behind.

Monday, June 15 marked the 8th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) authorized by President Barack Obama as a result of the relentless strength and dedication of immigrant youths to stop deportations of minors brought to the United States. In 2017, President Trump put 800,000 DACA recipients and their families at risk of deportation again when he chose to kill DACA.

Now, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) is deliberating DACA’s fate. This decision is crucial and many are unsure of its direction. The Supreme Court could overturn the protections for Dreamers, decide to phase it out over time or require Congress to meet additional regulatory requirements.

Whatever may be ahead, immigrant youth are organizing again. They are doing what they can to get ready, share resources and support each other. Also, they are standing in solidarity with Black people in this country, including Black undocumented immigrants, as they lead movements and campaigns in their cities and states to end racial discrimination and injustice.

Similarly, LULAC is prepared to support and defend Dreamers all across the country. We are gearing up for an imminent decision by the Supreme Court, which could range from a possible deportation decision on one end of the spectrum all the way to the other; an opportunity to legalize their presence in the United States. Whatever the outcome, together we will make sure Dreamers remain safe and a welcomed part of our communities. You can join us too by connecting with Home Is Here. Stay tuned as we release more information on how you can get involved and help through our Todos o Nada campaign which will seek to assist Dreamers across the country.

Communities, Climate, Equity and Policy

Watch Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President, speak with Sarita Turner, Vice President for U.S. Programs at the Institute For Sustainable Communities, at the latest Let’s Talk Climate webcast by ecoAmerica.

Communities of color, front-line communities, recent immigrants, and low-income neighborhoods are disproportionately impacted by climate but often left out of solutions and strategy. How can city and county leaders be more intentional to take action that brings solutions and equity? What are some strategies they can use to dismantle the structural bias in our civic, business, and social systems? Their decisions can help ensure that communities of color are leading in climate solutions and repairing the historic disinvestment that has caused our communities to be more vulnerable. Watch the discussion now.
