In the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, I promised that New York would remain a safe haven for reproductive rights and for the healthcare professionals who provide women with the care they need and deserve.
We’ve made good on that promise — passing shield laws to protect doctors and abortion providers from extradition attempts and safeguarding their privacy.
I have stood firm in protecting women’s rights and doctors’ ability to do their jobs safely, without the threat of imprisonment by red states.
As I said after the first extradition attempt from the state of Louisiana:
I took an oath of office to protect all New Yorkers. And I will uphold not only our Constitution but the laws of our land. And I will not be signing an extradition order that came from the governor of Louisiana. Not now, not ever.
