John,

As a national Catholic lay organization inspired by Saint Ignatius of Loyola's spirituality and the social teachings of the Catholic faith tradition, Ignatian Solidarity Network has joined with the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps Northwest, and Ignatian Spirituality Project to speak out at this critical moment as the U.S. Senate prepares to vote on a budget bill that could deeply harm vulnerable people and our planet.

TAKE ACTION: Urge Congress to reject the current budget proposal and amend the reconciliation package to reflect our moral priorities! ([link removed])

[link removed] the country, through direct service and social justice advocacy, ISN and our Ignatian-affiliated colleagues have witnessed the real-life impact that federal programs have on the dignity and well-being of vulnerable people: children living in poverty, immigrant families seeking safety and opportunity, low-income workers, and communities burdened by environmental injustice. These realities call us to moral clarity and action.

As the U.S. Senate considers the FY2025 budget reconciliation package, we urge our senators to reject proposals that would deepen hardship, particularly for immigrants and low-income families, and to instead uphold policies that foster human dignity, equity, and the common good.

“Unless the church stands up for the poor and marginalized of the nation, consistent with Catholic teaching, its moral voice will be diminished in the future,” expressed Bishop John C. Wester, the archbishop of Santa Fe, New Mexico, in an America Magazine Op-Ed ([link removed]) . “There are times when the church needs to forsake political considerations and take a stand, even if that effort is unsuccessful. This is one of those times.”
Join us in this call to protect vulnerable people and the planet by contacting your U.S. Senator today! ([link removed])
Pope Leo XIV recently emphasized the responsibility of governments to care for the most frail and vulnerable, “from the unborn to the elderly, from the sick to the unemployed, citizens and immigrants alike.”

We echo Pope Leo's call and urge the Senate to amend the reconciliation package to reflect these moral priorities. Let us work together to build a society where every person can thrive, and no one is left behind.
