A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

** DEAR NORTHVILLE,
------------------------------------------------------------

Happenings in Northville are on everyone’s minds. Local TV News stations, the Detroit Free Press & WWJ radio have been out broadcasting the opening of the downtown social district for businesses & restaurants.

Adding to the excitement in town, we had two Black Lives Matter rallies in 24 hours last weekend, where many of our youth joined their voices with others to speak out against racism and appeal for social justice. During Saturday’s rally, with the support & encouragement of our police force, I joined other communities by signing the Mayor’s National Pledge, which is a COMMIT TO ACTION on behalf of the City of Northville – to Review, Engage, Report & Reform on use-of-force policies. Our Northville Public Safety professionally trained team has set the standard for preparation, use of body cams, and adherence to fair, respectful & courteous treatment when it comes to enforcement of our laws. It’s my heartful vow that as society struggles with racial inequality, Northville will continue to be a leader and an ally against racism and discrimination.

NEXT VIRTUAL TOWN HALL IS JUNE 25^TH – Once again, we will go online to answer questions starting @ 7 PM, Thursday, 6/25. I’m sure the opening up of downtown will be top of mind. Also, our special guest will be Colleen Pobur, District Director for U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens (Haley is in session that night in DC). Colleen will share her thoughts and answer questions concerning both your local and national concerns. Additionally, Laura Genitti will be joining the Town Hall to share her perspective & insights as a local business owner.

Highlights:
* The Northville Business District is opening up as a social district, closing Main St. first then Center for the summer, creating a festive pedestrian traffic area (with music!). This includes expanded seating into the streets for restaurants & the availability for retailers to display merchandise outdoors. Come downtown & enjoy the festive Summer atmosphere!
* Hair salons & barbershops re-opened 6/15. In Northern Michigan, outdoor crowds are approved to 250, indoor 50, outdoor performance & sporting events 500. We’ll get there soon!
* COVID-19: Northville has had 42 cases/7 fatalities. Michigan 66K/6K & the Nation 2.1M/116K.
* Testing & contact tracing continues throughout the state. This is a marathon, not a sprint!
* As we transition to the “New Norm,” our lives will be different now as it relates to our work, socializing & spacing. I went to a function last night and people were working through how to greet one another, how to distance adequately when to take off their masks (to speak or drink) … it’s a new world. My commitment to you continues to keep you connected & safe, while having open communication.

ON ACTIONS
* Downtown Events – The Chamber has canceled the 4^th of July Parade (similar to most towns) but is evaluating the Victorian/Heritage festival for this fall. The DDA is planning on supporting the Food & Wine Festival in September and Music activities in the downtown social district.
* I thank all those who have shared their time & talents in these unprecedented times – now it’s time to move forward together into our future.
* City Road projects - 14 projects (with some replacing infrastructure dating back to 1895), surface parking lots & working with Wayne County on Sheldon Road repaving. We are moving forward!

Get out & enjoy the Summer…it’s up to us to assist Northville to re-engage.

Be safe, and continue to Keep that Northville Faith!

Stay #NorthvilleStrong!

Brian Turnbull
