Chinese Nationals, Including Michigan Lab Worker, Accused
of Smuggling Crop-Killing Fungus into US
Two Chinese nationals have been charged with smuggling a
dangerous fungus classified as a potential agroterrorism weapon into the
U.S., allegedly using a University of Michigan lab for their research. The
DOJ says the suspects, both funded by the Chinese government, posed a
serious national security threat by transporting the noxious pathogen
through Detroit Metro Airport.
