The Library of Michigan (LM) is pleased to thank Harry Coffill for his work as the District Media Specialist at the 2024/2025 Model SL 21 School Library. Harry’s work at the Lee Middle and High School Library in the Godfrey-Lee Public Schools earned him the honor of being the Model School Library for the year.
In the last year, Harry has been very busy beyond providing high quality school library services to his students. Harry, with one of his Godfrey-Lee students, presented at a Michigan State Board of Education meeting. He has been presenting multiple sessions at the MASL conference, hosting MASL regional meetings, advising other school librarians and administrators, getting two additional grants this year for Spanish language materials, and digitized the historical Godfrey-Lee yearbook collection with LM staff. One of the visitors Harry mentored was from China! With all that, he also managed to revise his Collection Development Plan and reconsideration procedures with district administration. Congratulations to Harry for such outstanding work during his tenure.
The Model School Library program at LM provides examples and mentors for K-12 school libraries throughout the state as well as highlights great school librarians. Each year, a school library program is selected and highlighted as the Model SL 21 School Library Program of the Year.
