Dear Friends, Torture Awareness Month is a time to “Live Our Values” in bold and public ways and NRCAT is bringing you resources to do just that. We invite you to register today for our next “how to” webinar for faith advocates, “How To Shine Your Light” on Wednesday, June 18 at 12pm – 1:15pm ET. During the webinar, you will learn about how your faith community can partner with NRCAT to lead public witness vigils on the 23rd of each month to draw attention to the estimated 122,00 people who are held for up to 23 hours a day in solitary confinement in U.S. prisons and jails. Webinar presenters will include leaders of WISDOM, a Wisconsin network of faith-based organizations whose members have been leading monthly vigils on the 23rd of each month outside correctional facilities in Green Bay, Milwaukie, and at the state capitol in Madison. We will also learn from leaders of EXPO of Wisconsin about the power and importance of honoring the human dignity of every life by hosting rapid response vigils outside a women’s prison following tragedies there. Donate to NRCAT today to support these efforts to shed light on torture! This June, and beyond, NRCAT is making banners with messages such as “Torture is a Moral Issue,” available for you to display at your local vigil or house of worship. Please contact Rev. T.C. Morrow at [email protected] to order a banner. Whether or not you are able to host a vigil on the 23rd of the month to remember those in solitary confinement, you can wear NRCAT gear from our store here every day. You may also join others across the country and the globe who are hosting a monthly Close Guantánamo vigil on the first Wednesday of each month.
