Act Now: BAN Cat Declawing in Rhode Island
Let's Ban Cat Declawing in 2025
Declawing is not a nail trim—it is far more severe. It is a surgical amputation of the last joints of a cat’s toes that can cause lifelong pain and trauma.

Since our founding, Alley Cat Allies has stood firmly against cat declawing as the cruel, unnecessary, and harmful act it is. And this year, we’re taking action to propel declaw ban legislation in states across the country.

We’re also mobilizing compassionate advocates to take a stand against declawing in their communities. Here are the latest updates on declaw bans in 2025:

California’s declaw ban is ready for the next step »

New Jersey’s declaw ban is moving forward »

Rhode Island’s declaw ban just passed in committee! »

Impact Story: Rescuing Bean
Bean
Alley Cat Allies never takes a break from saving cats' lives! This month, one of our team members didn't hesitate to cancel her dinner plans when she spotted a small black cat lying, unmoving, on the side of the road.

After rushing him to a veterinarian, we discovered he was just a kitten—less than a year old! And, that he was covered in fleas, emaciated, and FIV positive.

We at Alley Cat Allies know cats with FIV can live long, happy lives, and there was no way we would ever give up on this little guy. So we’ve given him a name—Bean—and we’re providing him with foster and veterinary care support through his recovery. We’re glad to say he’s eating like a champ and is beyond sweet; he never stops purring and making muffins.

Our belief is that Bean was severely neglected by his previous owners and, after showing signs of health issues, was dumped on the road. We're going to do all we can to make sure he has many, many happy years ahead of him.

To you, our supporters: THANK YOU. You are the reason we can save Bean, and cats like him, every day through widespread humane care, outreach, and education.
