Dear John, Today I’m writing with an urgent action you can take to help elephants Billy and Tina find sanctuary.
As we make clear in our ongoing litigation on Billy and Tina’s behalf, they remain in the constructive custody of the City of Los Angeles and the L.A. Zoo Director even though they’ve been moved to the Tulsa Zoo. This means that the City of L.A. and the L.A. Zoo Director have the legal authority to send the elephants to a sanctuary.
You can help right now by using this form to urge L.A. City Council President Harris-Dawson to hold a hearing on Motion 25-0446, which would allow the full City Council to consider what is in the best interests of Billy and Tina and require the L.A. Zoo Director to answer urgent and important questions about their relocation to the Tulsa Zoo. |
After completing the form, please call L.A. City Council President Harris-Dawson at 213-473-7008 and politely ask him to schedule Motion 25-0446 for a hearing before the full City Council.
On May 8th, the L.A. Zoo Director told the L.A. City Council that the elephants’ move to Tulsa “was not imminent.” On May 21st, the day after we filed suit, the L.A. Zoo announced it had moved the elephants to the Tulsa Zoo–a move made covertly and with no regard for the many voices who’ve called for sanctuary for the elephants. L.A. City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, who’s long been a dedicated advocate for sanctuary for Billy and Tina, has condemned the zoo’s lack of transparency.
The more messages the City Council President receives today, the better. Thank you for taking action for Billy and Tina!
