It’s called the Cerrado—a vast tropical savanna that has been largely shut off from the world for millennia. Turns out that’s an excellent strategy for biodiversity, resulting in a stunning paradise that’s home to 800 bird species, 1,200 fish species, a golden-furred maned wolf, and countless other varieties of animals and plants.
But now the outside world is encroaching on this little-known slice of wonder. Are these its final days?
