As uncertainty at the federal level continues (read more from our CEO in the Contrarian), Verified Voting’s work at the state level to shore up local systems is more urgent than ever. We’re sharing two important victories thanks to your continued support and our dedicated advocacy:
Robust audits coming to Maryland: Verified Voting worked alongside key partners to pass a risk-limiting audit (RLA) bill in Maryland, strengthening their post-election audit! Maryland joins a growing list of states that prioritize sound post-election audit legislation—because verifiable evidence is the best way to build lasting trust in our elections. Listen to Policy & Strategy Director Mark Lindeman take a deep dive on the bill in a recent podcast, and read more about the legislation in our joint press release with Common Cause Maryland.
Internet voting expansion halted in Nevada:
Our continued advocacy efforts—alongside valued partners—helped remove a dangerous provision in a bill that would have expanded internet voting in Nevada. As I highlighted in a recent Public News Service interview, election experts widely agree that internet voting presents significant security risks. We’ll keep advocating for safer alternatives to internet voting in Nevada and everywhere.
While we celebrate these wins, we need your help to make progress across the map. In Alabama—one of three states with no post-election audit—we got closer than ever to a first-ever provision, but the clock ran out. That’s why your help matters. We need to build on successes like Maryland and move the needle in every state—becausewhile just a handful of states have the most rigorous post-election audits, everyone deserves them.
Will you make a gift today to protect the integrity of our elections?
With thanks,
C.Jay Coles, Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs
