Silencers make mass shootings deadlier, make it harder to stop a shooting, and are used in targeted, assassination-style murders. Silencers muffle gunfire, making it difficult for people to identify and flee for safety.

What’s even scarier is that they’ve become more commonplace in the country: The amount of registered silencers increased by a staggering 84% in the last three years.

Trump-loyalists pushed this bill through Congress and hid their silencer deregulation provision within it in the middle of the night. Now, Senators want to quickly pass the tax bill with its deadly provisions, all while Trump continues to make cuts to community violence intervention programs and Medicaid programs that support many gun violence survivors.

Deregulating gun silencers would allow anyone, including prohibited purchasers, to buy or 3D-print a gun silencer WITHOUT registration or a Brady Background Check while putting more money into the pockets of gun industry executives.
