Salaam John xxxxxx,
We Must Fight Back Against the Travel BanWe Must Fight Back Against the Travel Ban
Yesterday, June 4, 2025, President Donald J. Trump announced a presidential proclamation [[link removed]] restricting the entry of foreign nationals from 12 countries. The United States has long been a beacon of hope for refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violence and repression, this action marks a shift that challenges that legacy and the values that have defined the nation.
To our community: We know this moment is painful and brings back deep fear and uncertainty. But if there is one thing our community has shown, it is strength. We have come together before, we have fought back, and we will do it again. You are not alone. We are always here for you, and we will never stop advocating for justice.
The first Travel Ban (also known as the Muslim Ban) in 2017 inflicted immediate and devastating harm. Families were torn apart, parents separated from their children, students denied opportunities, and patients blocked from life-saving medical care. State Department data confirmed [[link removed].] that 40,000 people were barred from entering the United States under Trump's Ban. Our communities lived through the fear, the heartbreak, and injustice.
Now, Trump has reinstated the ban, blocking people from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen, while partially restricting entry from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela and targeting Muslim and immigrant communities. Families will be separated, and countless lives will be upended under a policy driven by fear, not security.
We cannot allow this to happen again.
We MUST Fight Back
Congress has the power to stop this. The NO BAN Act [[link removed]] , introduced by Senator Chris Coons and Representative Judy Chu, is the only way to ensure this never happens again. This bill will:
* Make it illegal to discriminate based on religion or nationality in visa issuance and entry.
* Stop the President from imposing broad travel bans without real evidence and congressional oversight.
* Ensure transparency so no community is unfairly targeted again.
Tell Congress to Pass the NO BAN Act Now [[link removed]]
Call or email your members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the NO BAN Act and take a stand against this discriminatory ban.
The fight against this injustice is not over. Congress has the power to stop it, and we need them to act now.
