Making Pipe Dreams Come True
=========================
Clean water. For some it’s a daily convenience but for 2 billion people, it remains a distant dream. Unsafe drinking water, poor hygiene, and lack of sanitation are linked to 60 per cent of diarrhea-related deaths, tragically claiming the lives of 446,000 children under five each year. And the toll is 20 times higher in conflict zones.
Children like Jory know this struggle all too well. Every day before class, Jory spent half an hour navigating forest paths to fetch a single gallon of water.
Siayan, the remote municipality in the Philippines where Jory lives, was once ranked among the poorest in the country. Siayan’s chieftain, Judith, thought access to clean water would always be a pipe dream. But after 50 years, that dream came true.
Today—thanks to strong partnerships between the community, school officials, local government, and World Vision—clean water flows from a spring directly to Jory’s school. He and his classmates no longer choose between learning and fetching water. World Vision Canada’s water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives are making a real impact worldwide. Every five minutes, another case of diarrhea is prevented for a child under five through our programs.By joining hands with our donors, we’re building a safer, more dignified future for the next generation.
