Race + Power Weekly

At NPQ, we seek to showcase who will be most impacted by policies. For instance, if Medicaid is cut—as it would be under the Republican tax bill making its way through Congress—there will be a detrimental impact on people of color, those with disabilities, and those living in the South. Because the groups most impacted are also often the ones doing the work to combat social injustices, it is crucial to center them, not just in the problem, but in finding solutions.

In today’s newsletter, we start by looking at the harm policies at the federal level would cause these groups—and what leaders of color are doing to address critical issues in their communities.

First, we look at how cuts to Medicaid would worsen the medical debt crisis. Next, an article from Iris M. Crawford profiles how one organization is working to address food insecurity in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Then, Ericka Stallings and Iman Mills Gordon write about the importance of centering race in leadership. Finally, we invite you to register for our upcoming Premium webinar, “From Performance Management to Mutual Commitment: Fostering a Culture of Joyful Accountability.” This webinar is designed for nonprofit leaders and managers who are ready to move beyond top-down, corporate approaches to performance management—and foster accountability that inspires commitment, creativity, and collaboration. Join us on Thursday, June 26, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm ET. And take advantage of early bird registration until June 20.
