Juniors: Get ready to get ready! College or career training is only a year away

As summer nears, junior year is almost over. Take a few simple steps now to prepare yourself for bigger steps during senior year.

Get ready to apply for financial aid

*Prepare to apply for state and federal financial aid [ [link removed] ]: *

* *Set up your FSA ID: *Create an account on studentaid.gov [ [link removed] ] to receive your Federal Student Aid identification number (FSA ID). Parents should create their own account, too. Your FSA ID will help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
* *Look into WASFA:* Washington offers the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) [ [link removed] ] for people who choose not to file for federal financial aid.

*Learn about WA Grant [ [link removed] ] and other state financial aid [ [link removed] ]:* Washington's generous financial aid programs can help pay for many types of education beyond high school, like certificate programs, job training, apprenticeships, or college. Complete a FAFSA or WASFA to find out how much money you can get for your education.

*Know where you can use financial aid:* About 60 participating institutions [ [link removed] ] in Washington, plus approved apprenticeships!

Keep up with graduation requirements

Make sure you are keeping up with your class's graduation requirements [ [link removed] ]. Talk to your counselor about potential additional requirements.

Look into dual credit opportunities

Dual credit programs [ [link removed] ] allow students to get high school and college credit at the same time. Students who earn college credit are more likely to graduate high school, enroll in college, and earn degrees. [ [link removed] ]Multiple dual credit programs are offered in Washington, but not all programs are available at every high school.

Consider your college or career training path

Now is the time to think about what to do after high school. Here are some options to consider:

* Four-year college/university.
* Two-year college or community college.
* Apprenticeship.
* Technical school.
* Military career.
* Enter the workforce.

There’s still time to make a plan for education or training after high school. Explore your options [ [link removed] ] on the Washington Student Achievement Council website.

Considera tu trayectoria universitaria o profesional

* Universidad de cuatro años.
* Universidad de dos años o colegio comunitario.
* Programa de aprendizaje.
* Escuela técnica.
* Carrera militar.
* Ingresar al mercado laboral.
