Dear friend,
A year and a half ago, I had a mammogram which revealed several concerning spots. With an extensive family history of breast cancer, I chose to have a double mastectomy because I have a 5-year old who needs her mom around.
In the aftermath, my mind was filled with "what ifs." What if I didn't have access to private insurance? What if I lived in an area without access to care? These questions gave me an even greater empathy for the many women who share a similar story, as well as women whose story is unfathomable to me.
That's why I joined Congressman Morgan McGarvey, patients and providers to stand up for all Kentuckians to fight federal efforts to gut Medicaid and eliminate Planned Parenthood. Because this isn't just politics—it's survival.
In Kentucky, 48% of births are covered by Medicaid, yet we have 76 counties without a practicing OB-GYN. When rural hospitals close, women bear the brunt of it.
I listened to brave women share their stories—women who relied on Planned Parenthood when they had to choose between paying rent and affording health care. The decisions about my health care belonged to me and my medical team. Yours belong to you and your doctor—not politicians in Frankfort or Washington.
But we're facing well-funded opposition. The Republican budget would cut Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood clinics and strip health care from millions of Americans.
That's why I need your help today. The work we're doing to protect reproductive health care requires resources and a strong Democratic Party that can stand up to extremist attacks.
Can you please make a monthly contribution of $10, $15, $25, or whatever you can afford today?
When we fight together, we win together.
