Dear friends and neighbors,

Summer is nearly here, and with it comes an incredible lineup of events, milestones, and moments that remind us why Seattle is such a vibrant place to call home.

June is Pride Month, a meaningful time to honor Seattle’s LGBTQ+ community and affirm our city’s unwavering commitment to equality and inclusion. Across Seattle, festivals, parades, and events will showcase the strength of diversity and the values that unite us as One Seattle.

The summer months will also usher in new opportunities to enjoy our city’s beloved spaces. The recently completed waterfront offers a newly vibrant gathering place, featuring the return of live music on Pier 62, new small businesses and pop-ups, and serene scenery for all to enjoy. At Seattle Center, a full roster of concerts, arts, and community events demonstrates our city’s creative energy.

My vision for our connected waterfront and Pike Place Market is to make it one of the greatest pedestrian experiences in the country – where people don’t have to navigate vehicle traffic to enjoy all the Market has to offer. With the FIFA Club World Cup approaching this June, I’m excited about this new pilot limiting vehicle access during peak hours to enhance pedestrian safety and improve the overall experience for visitors, vendors, and workers alike

Summer is also a great time to get outdoors and enjoy Seattle’s world-class parks system. Our new summer safety strategy will take a proactive approach to create safe, welcoming parks and with new police patrols, increased park range presence, and environmental changes at high-priority parks.

I’m excited to invite you to join this momentum by registration for our One Seattle Day of Service, which will return for a fourth year on Saturday, July 12! Coming just under a year after the World Cup, this event is a chance to bring that same spirit of teamwork and pride to neighborhoods across the city. I hope you will join me in embracing the spirit of collaboration and giving back on the Day of Service next month!

Driving Progress on Key Priorities

Mayor Harrell in Chinatown to announce the new CID Ambassador Program

This spring has included multiple announcements driven by Mayor Harrell and his administration to build a vibrant, inclusive, and equitable city. Announcements include:

To support Seattle youth from the cradle to the classroom and into successful careers, Mayor Harrell announced his Every Child Ready initiative and bold proposal to renew the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise (FEPP) levy. One highlight from this proposal includes doubling access to affordable childcare slots to 1,400 a year and providing direct payments to support the retention of 5,000 childcare workers citywide.
Celebrating continued momentum on police officer recruitment, Mayor Harrell joined Police Chief Shon Barnes to celebrate the hiring of 60 officers this year as of mid-April, compared to 10 hired at this point in 2024. If current trends continue, SPD is on track to hire over 150 officers in 2025, which would be the largest total hires in any year in recent record.
Mayor Harrell joined City leaders and LGBTQ+ community advocates to sign new legislation that strengthens local protections for people seeking gender-affirming and reproductive health care services in Seattle, with a focus on supporting Seattle’s LGBTQ+ community in response to recent federal actions.
In a shared effort to support safety, economic revitalization, and community well-being in the historic Chinatown-International District, Mayor Harrell joined leaders to announce a new neighborhood ambassador program, which launched in June.
On Earth Day, Mayor Harrell issued an Executive Order directing City departments to respond to Seattle’s current and future climate challenges with a focus on building resilience, growing a green economy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
To expedite the expansion of light rail to Seattle communities, Mayor Harrell announced new legislation to streamline permitting and support smooth, safe project delivery in partnership with Sound Transit.
Mayor Bruce Harrell joined Councilmember Mark Solomon to sign two pieces of legislation that advance Downtown Activation Plan (DAP) goals of revitalizing downtown’s economy with new small businesses and creating more housing.

Save the Date: One Seattle Day of Service

This year, the One Seattle Day of Service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The event is an invitation to every Seattle neighbor to roll up your sleeves, come together, and give back, with volunteer opportunities in each neighborhood across the city.

If you are part of an organization that is interested in hosting or leading an event, please register here. We have several ways your organization can participate by providing volunteer opportunities within your organization, sponsorships, and/or providing volunteers the day of the event.
