Phil Weiser for Colorado

Friend,

As “The People’s Lawyer,” I’ve made it my mission to defend Coloradans from irresponsible actors who break the law and exploit them. I’ve taken on shady corporations, powerful special interests, and now—with increasing frequency—the President of the United States and his administration for acting above the law.

It’s the job of the Colorado Attorney General to defend our state and that can mean taking the federal government to court. In fact, over President Trump’s first term, my office sued his administration 11 times. These are not normal times, however. Since Trump’s return to office, he's unleashed an unprecedented level of lawlessness — and my team has stepped up our fight to check his illegal power grabs.

I’ll break down my work in a minute to hold the Trump administration accountable when it abuses its power, ignores the law, and harms Coloradans. First, I want you to know this: I will always protect the people of Colorado—especially when their rights, freedoms, or livelihoods come under attack.

That’s why I’m running for Governor—because Colorado deserves a leader who will stand up and fight back. If you're with me, I’m asking if you could make a donation to support this campaign →

Just five months into Trump’s second term, my office has nearly doubled our previous lawsuit count. As I’m writing this, we’ve taken the federal government to court *21 times* to block the President’s illegal abuses of executive power.

Amid Donald Trump’s flurry of executive actions, I’ve constantly had to ask myself two questions: “Is this action harming Colorado?” and “Is this action illegal?”

And 21 times so far, the answer to both questions has been yes.

And each time, my office has not hesitated to defend Coloradans and their rights from a federal government acting as though it's above the law.

We stepped up to defend Coloradans from DOGE accessing their private data. We sued Trump to stop him from meddling in our state’s free and fair elections. And when Donald Trump tried to ban birthright citizenship on his first day in office, we took him to court and blocked that illegal order. And those are just some of the actions we’ve taken to defend Coloradans.

I’m running for Governor because Colorado deserves a leader who isn’t afraid to stand up to the unprecedented level of lawlessness out of this White House. I’ve never hesitated to take on Trump when his illegal actions have harmed Coloradans, and I’ll take that same approach as Colorado’s next Governor.
