Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. As we turn the calendar to June, I have information on my legislation that passed the PA House this week, my visit to The Vanguard School last week, a few upcoming events including both Perkiomen Study meetings on June 18, road work alerts and more. Remember to scroll down to the community events section to find out what’s happening in district and across Montgomery County! As always, I hope you find the information below useful. | Legislative Updates: Two of My Bills Pass the House | I’m happy to announce that two of my bills, H.B.s 852 & 853, PASSED the Pennsylvania House yesterday. Both now move to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration. House Bill 852 would permit tax collectors to recoup the costs they incur collecting delinquent business taxes, and H.B. 853 would permit counties that levy per capita and occupation taxes to collect their costs of collection directly from the delinquent taxpayer in the same manner as municipalities. These bills ensure every Pennsylvanian feels the positive impact of fair, honest government that's transparent, efficient and stable. The law bans drivers from using interactive mobile devices while driving – even when stopped at traffic lights or in traffic. Here’s what you need to know: - What's banned: Holding or supporting a phone or other device with any part of your body while driving. This includes texting, browsing, or dialing unless it's a single button press.
- What's allowed: Using hands-free technology like Bluetooth or dashboard mounts for calls, navigation, or music. Emergency calls to 911 are also permitted.
- Enforcement: For the first year, violations will result in written warnings. Starting June 5, 2026, a first offense will carry a $50 fine plus court costs and fees.
Also, you can learn more about Paul Miller Jr., the young man for whom the law was named, by clicking here. | Last week, I toured The Vanguard School in Tredyffrin Township at the invitation of Tom Quinn, its executive director. Many thanks to Tom for deepening my understanding of Vanguard’s inspiring mission.
