Hi John,

As an Oregonian, I know that you know how valuable our wildlife is to our state. Oregon would not be the special state it is without our fish, wildlife, and the habitats they rely upon. From whale watching and birding to fishing, our wildlife are a staple of our state’s identity, and vital for our tourism economy. Will you send a message today to support critical funding to protect and recover Oregon’s native wildlife [[link removed]]?

Many of our iconic native species are on the decline due to habitat loss, climate change, and development. In Oregon, there are nearly 300 species of greatest conservation need that require urgent, long-term recovery efforts. However, we lack dedicated funding for our wildlife at the state level. And additionally, with federal government cuts looming, our wildlife is being pushed even further to the brink of extinction.

HB 2977 [[link removed]], known as “1% for Wildlife”, would provide necessary funding for wildlife and habitat conservation by increasing the state tourism tax from 1.5% to 2.5%. This bill just recently passed out of the House Committee on Natural Resources and now awaits a work session in the House Committee on Revenue.

Now is our chance to do something about this, but we can’t do it without your help. Your legislators need to hear from you on how much you care about Oregon’s native wildlife today [[link removed]]!

With a 1% increase, we could make a real difference for wildlife conservation, while maintaining Oregon’s low state tourism taxes (it would still be one of the lowest in the country). By passing HB 2977, a $400 weekend coast trip would contribute $4 toward protecting fish, birds, pollinators, and their habitats, while ensuring visitors help protect the very landscapes and wildlife that make Oregon so unique.

Let’s pass this critical funding legislation and combat Oregon’s extinction crisis. Please send your legislators a message today before it’s too late [[link removed]]!

Thank you for your support,
