Hi,

Donald Trump just took a major step toward ending the U.S. Postal Service
as we know it by getting FedEx board member David Steiner installed as
postmaster general.^1

A FedEx board member running the USPS is a flagrant conflict of interest
and a blaring wake-up call that the post office is in serious danger. In
fact, this guy is even worse than Trump's first postmaster general, Louis
DeJoy, who has spent the last five years running the USPS into the ground.

Demand Progress has spent years fighting to defend the U.S. Postal Service
from efforts to privatize the agency, and now we must ramp up those
efforts.

Americans rely on the U.S. Postal Service as a lifeline for the delivery
of prescription drugs, Social Security checks, mail-in ballots, and
countless other vital documents.

In fact, without the USPS, 51.5 million households and businesses in rural
communities would be left with no guaranteed delivery options at all
because corporations like UPS and FedEx simply won't serve areas that they
deem insufficiently profitable.^2

But Donald Trump has expressed support for privatizing the Postal Service
for years.^3 Putting a FedEx board member in charge is "an aggressive step
toward handing America's mail system over to corporate interests," in the
words of the National Association of Letter Carriers, which represents
nearly 300,000 postal workers.^4

The Postal Service Board of Governors officially selects the postmaster
general, but Trump is in the process of installing a MAGA majority on the
board, and Steiner was selected only after his name was screened by the
White House.^5

Make no mistake: This is all about Donald Trump's plan to privatize the
U.S. Postal Service and end the post office as we know it. It's up to us
to fight back.
