John,

Thanks to your incredible support, Governor Polis has officially signed the "Protect Wild Bison" bill (SB25-053) into law.

Surprisingly, Colorado law did not protect wild bison, leaving these magnificent animals vulnerable to being shot when they wandered into our state.

This new law changes that -- finally classifying wild bison as big game wildlife and protecting them like moose and elk.

This is a victory for a truly iconic animal in our state -- the buffalo. And your support gave us the resources we needed to protect them.

Environment Colorado gathered hundreds of petitions to support protecting wild bison, testified before key Colorado legislative committees, and hosted a bison education event at the Capitol -- which brought together a diverse group of non-profits, bison herd managers, Indigenous groups, and CU-Boulder students (Go Buffs!) -- who convinced the legislature to act.

Thank you for standing with us to protect these iconic creatures of the West. Your commitment to Colorado's wild places truly makes a difference.

Onward,

The Environment Colorado Team
