The People’s Budget: Rally TODAY. Keep up the pressure!
Indivisible SF is fighting alongside the People’s Budget Coalition for a budget that protects the freedom and future thriving of all our people and families in San Francisco. A budget is a moral document and an expression of values. We know that all people, no matter where they live, what they look like, or who they love, deserve safety and well-being.
Our city’s next budget is currently being crafted. But contrary to our values, our communities are on the chopping block. Year after year, we see more and more cuts to needed services while the budget for the police gets more and more bloated—especially with massive overtime spending. The Board of Supervisors published an audit of police overtime last year, but they have yet to take action.
All while companies like Airbnb, Uber, and Lyft tie up vital City revenues with frivolous lawsuits. When is a budget deficit not a deficit? When corporations are not paying their taxes.
We at Indivisible SF Local and State Action collaborate with others to fight for our values right here in San Francisco. We join with The People’s Budget Coalition, a part of SF Rising, which convenes 150 nonprofit organizations, unions, and advocates working to democratize the city budget to make sure every voice is heard.
Here’s what you can do.
-
Join the People’s Budget Rally TODAY at 12 PM on the stairs of City Hall.
-
Email the Mayor to make sure he knows what we stand for. We want a city where our budget protects the freedom and future thriving of all our people and families.
-
Join the People’s Budget Coalition’s email campaign to demand Airbnb, Uber, and Lyft drop the lawsuits.
-
Leave a public comment on Monday, June 23, at 10 AM at City Hall to increase funding for the Public Defender’s office.

Tell Your Senators and Governor to Protect Planned Parenthood NorCal’s Jeopardized Federal and State Funding
California voters have repeatedly affirmed support for funding reproductive healthcare. In 2016, we passed a tobacco tax that helps fund healthcare, including reproductive healthcare, for low-income Californians. Last year, we passed Proposition 35 to provide further reproductive health funding.
Governor Newsom’s state budget proposal would reallocate $1.6 billion of Prop 35 money, and $500 million from the tobacco tax, to other purposes.
Meanwhile, in Congress, the MAGA Murder Budget currently before the Senate also contains provisions that would take federal funding away from reproductive healthcare.
This isn’t what we voted for. Reproductive healthcare needs to be protected from all attempts to defund it, whether they come from Trump or Governor Newsom.
Tell the Governor and Senator Wiener: Make our votes count!
Explainer: The Filibuster, Reconciliation, and Rescission Bills
The Trump regime is determined to enact the MAGA agenda of enriching the rich through massive tax cuts for the wealthy while slashing government services and gutting regulatory power at our expense. To do that, they must prevent Democrats from blocking their legislation with filibusters. So, as usual, they are maneuvering to do just that through ploys such as introducing a Reconciliation bill, a Rescission bill, and budget waivers; reinterpreting long-standing laws and rules; and circumventing the Senate Parliamentarian.
Democratic party leaders wring their hands and say that because they are in the minority there is nothing they can do. Not true. The Field Guide to Hardball Congressional Tactics lists strategies and procedures that Republicans use against Democrats and that Democrats should start wielding on our behalf.
Our message to our Democratic representatives is clear and simple: DO YOUR JOB! Do your job—or we will find someone else who will.

NO KINGS is in less than two weeks. Join us at our June 14 March and Rally
Answering Indivisible National’s call for mass mobilization, Indivisible SF and 50501SF are hosting a No Kings event on Saturday, June 14. We’ll gather at Dolores Park at 11:30 AM, then march at noon sharp to Civic Center Plaza for a short rally. To sign up for our event, use our Mobilize page.
There are three ways you can help:
First, we are looking for at least 50 volunteers. Sign up via our Google form.
Second, if you have some money to spare, please donate to Indivisible SF. We will spend approximately $7,000 on costs for this event, including sound, printing, permits, and more. Your money will go extra-far this month as Indivisible National is matching donations up to a total of $500.
Third, spread the word to your friends, family, union, book club, or anyone who will listen! We have flyers available for download, so you can print and post them.
Look for flyers on our SF event page. For other events going on around the Bay Area, check out our No Kings landing page.
Tell voters in red states: Pressure YOUR Congress members to vote NO on the MAGA Murder Budget.
The “Big Ugly Reconciliation Bill” has passed the House, and faces an uphill battle in the Senate. Unfortunately, this bill confirms our greatest fears as written. Between cuts to Medicaid, food aid (SNAP), and other services, MAGA cuts will take an average of $700 out of the take-home pay of people earning from $17,000 to $51,000 starting next year, and more thereafter. On the other hand, those with incomes over $4.3 million will receive an extra $389,000 or more on average in their after-tax income in 2026.
The fight is not over, and we are keeping tabs on this bill. Since the service cuts it provides run so deep, it is a third rail for many red-state Senators. We need to let voters in red states know what their Senators are about to do and get them to raise holy hell about it.
