Last weekend, I had the honor of speaking at the California Democratic
Party Convention, and I wanted to share my remarks with you.

[ [link removed] ]Before I do, can you chip in any amount to keep our people-powered
campaign fueled this summer and beyond?

It’s so important that we come together during these difficult times,
unified in our fight for progress, justice, rights, and freedoms.

My earliest years were spent in the farmworkers movement.

I watched my parents fight for the hardworking people who grow our
nation’s food. Watched my dad set up health clinics and work with Cesar
Chavez in the front office. Watched my mom work in the preschool with the
inimitable Dolores Huerta. Watched them and their friends march, protest,
and raise their fists in the air, demanding better.

Those years taught me many lessons, but one in particular speaks to me
right now: People power is the most potent power there is.

I saw firsthand that we the people can unite against bullies and bad
actors. We the people can stand up for the downtrodden and speak up for
the voiceless. We can demand justice, equity, and safety for ALL people.

You’ve got my word: I’ll always stand with you, the California people.

We’re only 18 weeks into Trump 2.0 — 18 very long weeks — and I’ve already
had to take Trump to court 23 times.

That’s more lawsuits than weeks in his term. Lawsuits that:

* Defend birthright citizenship;
* Fight unlawful tariffs that are hurting California families, workers,
and businesses;
* Protect funding for Head Start, Medi-Cal, and services for seniors and
people with disabilities;
* And lawsuits that keep unelected, private citizen Elon Musk and DOGE
in check.

And that’s the shortlist!

Fortunately, at the Department of Justice, we’ve got a full tank of gas, a
ton of energy, and we’re ready for the road ahead. You’ve got my word:
EVERY time Trump breaks the law, violates the Constitution, and puts our
people in harm’s way, I’ll be here to take him to court.

I’m not naive. The next four years will be trying, no doubt about it. But
no matter how exhausting it might be, we can’t become complacent. We can’t
let ourselves become numb.

We’ve got to stay engaged, stay enraged by the flagrant abuse of power,
and stay outraged by Trump’s complete and total disregard for the
Constitution. We’ve got to stay in this fight.

Whatever Trump and his billionaire buddies throw our way, we ought not be
hopeless, because we are not helpless — not when we stand united, shoulder
to shoulder in the fight for what’s right, in the fight for our rights and
our country.

As California Democrats, I have no doubt you will! As your California
Attorney General, I’ll be beside you, every step of the way.

need to consistently build the resources needed to keep up these critical
fights throughout the next four years. Pitch in $5 or more
to help us do just that.
