Let’s review some recent history.

In 2023, Republicans only won the Mississippi governor’s race by a margin of 50.9% to 47.7%. The election came down to just under 30,000 votes — less than half the capacity at the Ole Miss football stadium. 

In Louisiana, a Democrat got elected governor in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. Not to mention: earlier this year, commanding majorities of Louisiana voters rejected the power-grabbing constitutional amendments that Republicans pushed at the ballot box, with Black voters leading the way at a higher turnout rate than their white counterparts.

And get this: in Texas, a recent 2026 Senate poll showed a potential Democratic nominee edging out the Republican who was leading in the primary polling. 

Look: races don’t just become winnable. You make them winnable. And even if you fall short, you lay the groundwork for future victories in the years to come.
