John,
Young people are critical to the future of our democracy. That’s why we’re training the leaders of tomorrow, today.
On June 14th, we’ll launch our 2025 Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship where we’ll train young people over 6 weekends throughout the summer to learn from movement leaders and from each other. Fellows from 14 to 24 years old will build organizing and leadership skills through trainings and 30 hours of on-the-ground experience, after which they’ll receive a $1,000 stipend.
We normally select 15 fellows, but this year we received a record number of applicants (89!). That means we need to raise closer to $20,000 to cover the costs of this important program, which is free to participants, so we can train more fellows than ever before.
Will you help us expand the number of fellows we can accept into this year’s Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship with a donation today?
We’re also partnering with other Democratic members of Congress to train more young leaders about how to mobilize their communities for change. The Democracy Summer program educates high school and college-aged young people in the struggle for democratic freedom, including supporting them with hands-on experience registering and connecting with voters.
Following a summer of youth civic engagement, we won’t stop there. From August 2025 through May 2026, we’re giving young leaders a real seat at the table, offering a chance for high school students to work alongside me and other policymakers to create meaningful change through the Youth Advisory Council. They’ll develop initiatives to address key concerns in their communities and advise me about what they want from me as their Congressmember.
I’ve developed legislation in partnership with young people before, including my Youth Homelessness Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Act to address youth homelessness by providing monthly cash assistance. Young people with lived experience helped craft the bill to ensure that it meets the real needs of our unhoused neighbors.
Every time I get to meet with my district’s youth, their curiosity, thoughtfulness, and determination fuel my soul and remind me why we are fighting for an equitable society where everyone can thrive. I just spoke at a local high school’s graduation, which filled me with pride and hope. Young people are our next generation of leaders, and we can help them build political power today.
Donate to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to power our 2025 Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship and future youth engagement to train young people and grow the movement for a truly democratic society.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
Together, we are empowering the next generation to fight for our communities and our rights.
In solidarity,
Rashida
