Bicycle Connections Survey

Bicycle on a path near water

Thurston Regional Planning Council is working with local governments to develop a Bicycle Connectivity Strategy to improve safety, connectivity, and accessibility for bicyclists across Thurston County. A countywide bicycle strategy will identify more dedicated routes for cyclists, making the system safer for more people of all skill levels to confidently ride to the places they want to go. The project will also identify high-risk areas for cyclists, which will help make safety improvements in the future.

As part of this project, they’ve launched the Bicycle Connections Survey to hear about our communities’ bicycling needs. Whether you ride regularly, occasionally or not at all, your feedback will help shape future policies, infrastructure improvements, and community priorities for cycling. The survey is open until June 30. Read more about the Bicycle Connectivity Strategy at www.trpc.org/Bicycle-Connectivity-Strategy.

Ride Transit Month

Ride Transit Month

June is Ride Transit Month–a time to celebrate you, showcase the benefits of riding transit and encourage people who don't normally ride to give it a try. This also gives us an opportunity to recognize the vital role transit plays in our community.

Pledge to Ride

Are you willing to ride transit at least five times this month? Take the pledge at https://transportationchoices.org/ride-transit-month/. Then share your ride by tagging us (@IntercityTransit) and using, #RideTransitMonth.

Community Events and Parades

Bubble bus and mini bus

We're excited to participate in community events and parades again this summer! Our bubble bus made its seasonal debut at the Lacey Spring Fun Fair last month and we're looking forward to sharing it with you again soon.

Find us at Yelm Prairie Days on June 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Look for the Bubble Bus in the parade and at Yelm City Park immediately after for some free family fun!

Look for information about where to see the bubble bus this season by following us on Facebook (@IntercityTransit) and Twitter (@intercitytransi). We hope to see you soon!

DIY Bike Repair Night

Volunteer working on a bike

Sign-up for DIY Bike Repair Night and get your bike rolling in time for summer! Our Walk N Roll program’s DIY Bike Repair Nights take place the first Thursday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. Community members can schedule to come to the Walk N Roll Educational Bike Shop to work on their personal bikes. Participants will have access to professional stands, tools and the knowledge and assistance of Walk N Roll’s bike mechanic volunteers and bicycle mechanic educator.

This is an opportunity to learn how to work on your own bike. We won’t work on it for you; instead we will help you learn while you fix your bike. If you are comfortable working alone, you are welcome to use the space and tools independently.

If you would like to reserve a spot at a DIY Repair Night, please email [email protected] with:

  • Your name and contact information.
  • The date you hope to attend. (Please check the Walk N Roll Calendar for the DIY Bike Repair Night schedule.)
  • A picture of your bike.
  • Information about what needs to be repaired.
  • How much assistance you will need.

Bicycle Community Challenge

The 2025 Bicycle Community Challenge wrapped up at the end of May, with hundreds of participants logging thousands of miles on their bikes. Riders improved their health and well-being, reduced traffic and parking congestion, and had lots of fun on their bikes and at our events. Everyone who logged rides in May will receive a pack of valuable coupons and a cool reflective sticker. Many riders won fun prizes in our random drawings as well. Coupons and prizes will be mailed later this month, so watch your mailbox if you rode in the BCC this year!

2025 International Roadeo Results

Intercity Transit’s Roadeo team attended the American Public Transportation Association’s International Bus Roadeo in Austin, TX this past April. The Roadeo is a celebration of the expertise, training, and dedication of frontline transit workers. Drivers navigate obstacle courses, perform simulated driving scenarios, whereas maintenance teams showcase their ability to conduct thorough vehicle inspections, diagnose mechanical issues, and complete maintenance tasks efficiently and safely. Awards are given in each practice area, and there is an overall grand prize for the transit system with the highest combined score for the bus operator and maintenance team.

In his first international showing, Operator Clinton Jimenez finished 28th out of 75 Operators. Our Maintenance Team with Richelle Loken, Jonathan Reynolds and Sean Malay took 5th place overall out of 44 maintenance teams in the Maintenance Competition, matching their finish from last year. While the Grand Champion title escaped us this year, this group gave it their all to represent Intercity Transit against some of the best Maintenance Teams and Operators in the country. We are extremely proud of Clinton, Richelle, Jonathan, and Sean for their achievements.

Rider Tip: Ask Your Driver

If you're ever unsure about your route or need help with service information, don't hesitate to ask your bus driver! Intercity Transit drivers know their routes well and are happy to assist passengers with questions about stops, transfers and schedules when it is safe for them to do so.

Whether you're a first-time rider or just need a quick clarification, asking for help can make your trip much easier. Your driver is a great resource so don't be afraid to speak up!
